Development Project

architects plans
We wish to provide greater access to the history of the Incorporation and the Hall for everyone whilst respecting the fabric of the building.

The Project involves the creation of new space to the rear of the existing hall, thereby freeing up the ground floor of the existing hall, the former school room. This will allow for the improvement of physical access to the hall including a lift, interpretation centre, reception area, kitchen and toilets. The existing fabric of the hall will be carefully restored and refurbished.

A most important aspect of the project is the interpretation scheme which will provide on-site information of great educational value. This will cover the historical importance of the building and of the woollen cloth trade to the economic development of The City Exeter and Devon.

HLF logoThe Heritage Lottery Fund awarded an initial Project Planning Grant of just under £50,000 in 2004 to allow us to establish the feasibility of our plans.

The total cost of this Project is approaching £0.5m. We have applied to the Heritage Lottery Fund and other charitable organisations for support. The Guild itself is putting in a significant amount including the purchase of the adjoining land and buildings.
