Tuckers Hall is 540 Years Old!
Records show that on the 8th October 1471, William and Cecilia Bowden granted to the Wardens of the Guild of Weavers Fullers and Shearmen the land and money to build a chapel especially for their use for religious worship and as a meeting place.
540 years on, you can visit what is now called Tuckers Hall and witness much of the change that has taken place since then.
On the 8th October this year, the Hall will be open from 10.30am until 1pm, with talks at 11am and 12.00 noon.
Have your say at the Hall
We will shortly be displaying most of the material for our new interpretation Centre and we are inviting you, the public to look at the information and let us know your views.
We will be open on Saturday 8 October, a special date for us, as it is exactly 540 years since the land and money was given to the Guild to build Tuckers Hall. Opening hours that day will be 10.30am - 1pm with talks at 11am and 12.00 noon.
Do come along and hear the story of the Hall and the woollen cloth trade in Exeter and help us refine our new displays.
Digitisation of the Tuckers Hall Records Has Begun!
As part of the Tuckers Hall Heritage Lottery funded project, four digitisation volunteers have now been trained to photograph the historical records of the Incorporation of Weavers Fullers and Shearmen and work has begun on scanning some of the earliest minute books dating back as far as the 16th century. Most of the work on the minute books is complete and work will soon start on other documents, starting with the earliest.
